Plateau senator, Ignatius Longjan, dies in Turkish hospital

Senator Ignatius Longjan who represented Plateau South Senatorial District has died at a Turkish hospital in Abuja.

The lawmaker’s former chief of staff, John Dafa’an, confirmed the death.

Longjan died on Sunday evening after falling ill for several weeks.

He was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism.

Longjan was also a former deputy governor of Plateau State.

In his condolence message, Senate President Ahmad Lawan acknowledged Longjan’s contributions at the state and national levels as former Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru; former Chief of Staff at the Government House in Jos and Plateau State Deputy Governor between 2011 and 2019.

Lawan said the Senate will miss Longjan who was Vice Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Tourism as well as the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Longjan’s death comes after that of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu from Imo State, who died in December.
