Oyetola suspends Dubai trip approved by Aregbesola for LG chairmen

Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, has ordered council chairmen in the state to suspend their planned trip to Dubai for a workshop.

The governor in a statement on Monday by his spokesman, Adeniyi Adeshina, said the state’s financial situation could not accommodate such trip.

Sixty-eight chairs of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas had been billed to attend a 10-day workshop in the United Arab Emirates.

The trip was approved in 2018 by former governor Rauf Aregbesola but was delayed due to lack of funds.

Oyetola, however, assured public officers in the state that they would be trained at appropriate times when the state’s financial strength improves.

A senior member of staff of a local government in the state who did not want to be named said Oyetola’s directive was commendable.

He alleged that the local government chairmen were only interested in enriching their pockets through the foreign trip.

“I wonder why they have to travel to Dubai for a workshop when the same workshop can be organized here,” he said.
