South-West Vice Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) Abayomi Arabambi has disclosed that party leaders, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
Mr Arabambi made the statement during an interview on News Central on Thursday.
“Abure and Governor Alex Otti have all agreed in principle that we will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
He added that the decision followed discussions among party leaders.
Arabambi said the arrangement was based on an understanding that the presidency should remain in the South-West for two terms.
He also ruled out the return of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi to the Labour Party.
“Obi can never come back to the Labour Party,” he said.
According to him, the decision was linked to the crisis within the party and consultations among its leaders.
He said the party had agreed to support Tinubu’s re-election.
Arabambi also spoke on reports that Nenadi Usman was working to bring Obi back to the party.
He said the move would not succeed and urged her to drop the idea.
He also criticised Obi’s role in the party during the 2023 election, blaming him and his supporters for some of the issues faced at the time.
Arabambi said the party’s focus now is on its current political direction ahead of the 2027 election.
