Former governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, has closed his defence, alongside two others who are standing trial over alleged fraud of N7.65 billion.

Senator Kalu closed his defence on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Justice Mohammed Idris directed the prosecution and the defence to file their final written addresses.

The judge adjourned till October 22 for the adoption of the written addresses and to take final arguments in the case.

A date will be fixed for judgement after the adoption of the addresses.

Kalu has testified on Tuesday that Abia State did not have up to N1 billion when he became governor in 1999.

“The first month that I came in, there was even no money to buy diesel. I spent my own money to run the state for six months,” he said.
