Accord Party governorship aspirant in Oyo State Oriyomi Hamzat has dismissed rumours that he may step down for another candidate in the 2027 governorship election.
Mr Hamzat spoke at a gathering with supporters where he said he remains in the race.
“People should stop asking me if I am going to step down for anybody, because I am not,” he said. “While it is clear there may be some permutations, it is certain: Oriyomi is the next Governor of Oyo State.”
Hamzat, a broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, declared his governorship ambition on January 17, at a rally in Ibadan under the Accord Party. He made the announcement at Liberty Stadium, saying his decision followed what he described as a divine calling and calls from residents to contest.
At the declaration, he said he had not planned to join partisan politics before and that he previously supported other politicians. He added that he consulted advisers before making his decision and submitted it to what he described as divine guidance.
He said, “I tabled it to God, and he approved my contesting.”
Oriyomi Hamzat also said he did not have financial strength or political backing, but insisted he would rely on public support. He said his focus would be on service delivery and programmes for residents, including youths and women.
He added that concerns about losing or being rigged out were no longer part of his considerations and called for continued support from his followers.
