Dispatch rider, one other killed as suspected cultists clash in Lagos

hoodlums cause violence at Fadeyi

Two persons have been confirmed dead in an incident on Wednesday involving cult members at Fadeyi, along Ikorodu Expressway, Lagos.

A dispatch rider was hit by a stray bullet as the hoodlums exchanged gunshots while another unidentified man lost his life in the incident.

Eyewitnesses said the fight began around 11 am leaving commuters and residents scampering for their lives.

A source in the area said: “The crisis is not a small matter. Immediately the shooting started, the police on ground ran away because those boys were heavily armed.

“They were not carrying pistols. I don’t know how to describe their guns, but the guns they carried surpassed that of the police in terms of the sophistication.

“It was after the whole crisis has simmered that the police and some SARS officials came to the scene.”

Police officers confirmed the killing, adding that the corpses have been deposited at the morgue.

Management of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the state, in a tweet on Wednesday, announced suspension of movement of its buses plying Fadeyi route owing to the situation in the area.

It said: “Dear Customers, due to the current situation at Fadeyi, buses heading towards that direction are currently on hold. We thank you for your patronage and understanding. Kindly send us a dm if you have any inquiries and we will be sure to get back to you.”
