Suspected cultists have killed Onaopemipo Lawal, popularly known as Ariku, a loyalist of the chairman of Lagos Parks Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo.

Ariku, who was a member of the parks committee, was killed in Owode area of Mile 12 on Sunday.

He was reportedly on a motorcycle when three men attacked him.

A video of the attack has since gone viral. In the video, the assailants attack him with sticks and knives.

Ariku was confirmed dead in a hospital.

His death sparked protest as his aggrieved friends took to the streets protesting, causing panic around Mile 12, as text messages alerting Lagosians on the incident and warning them to avoid Mile 12 went viral.

MC Oluomo’s media aide, Buhari Jimoh, told Vanguard that Ariku could have been killed by those who suspected he was always reporting their criminal activities to the police.

Lagos police spokesman Benjamin Hudenyin said policemen were deployed to the area to avoid breakdown of law and order.

MC Oluomo himself escaped death in 2019 when he was stabbed with an alleged poisonous knife at a rally organised by the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikeja.
