Odumakin’s death too heavy to bear — Afenifere leader Adebanjo

Leader of the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere Pa Ayo Adebanjo has described the death of the group’s spokesman Yinka Odumakin as “too heavy to bear”.

Odumakin died of complications arising from COVID-19 on Saturday at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital isolation centre.

Adebanjo, reacting to the news, tweeted a photo of Odumakin with the caption, “This is too heavy to bear.”

The late Odumakin played a significant role in the National Democratic Coalition that fought the regime of late military dictator General Sani Abacha after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election.

More recently, he was among leading voices among the Yoruba who condemned the activities of criminal Fulani herdsmen accused of farmland destruction, rape, killings and abductions in the south-west.
