Lagos State Deputy Governor-elect, Obafemi Hamzat, has lost his father, Oba Mufutau Hamzat.

The octogenarian Olu of Afowora Sogade, Ogun State died on Sunday evening following a brief illness.

He was a member of the Lagos State Governors Advisory Committee (GAC) and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His last public outing was the conferment of a honorary doctorate degree on him by a foreign university. The event took place at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka.

The deceased was also a former National Vice Chairman of Allaince for Democracy (AD) before it metamorphosed into Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the merger that saw the birth of APC.

His death comes 17 days to the inauguration of his son as deputy governor of Lagos.

Late Hamzat will be buried on Monday at his Yaya Abatan Street, Ogba residence according to Islamic rites.
