OAU issues query to hostel owner over female student’s death

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife has issued a query to the owner of BVER, a private hostel on its campus, where a student died after falling into a septic tank.

Ajibola Ayomikun, who was in her second year in the department of linguistics and African languages, recently fell into the tank which was not properly covered and died.

“The owner of the private hostel, BVER, where the incident occurred has been issued a query by the University Management and his response is being awaited,” OAU spokesman Abiodun Olarewaju said on Friday.

“It must be noted that all the hostels in the students’ village are privately owned and they are not under the control of the University. The University Management presently has only oversight functions on these private hostels.”

Mr Olarewaju added that the police have commenced criminal investigation into the incident.
