NYSC member dies, 19 others injured in Taraba accident

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Taraba State has died in an auto crash.

Taraba NYSC coordinator, Florence Yaakugh, without naming the deceased, confirmed the crash and casualty figure to Channels TV on Tuesday.

The accident on Monday which involved several vehicles also affected 18 corps members and a local government inspector.

Mrs Yaakugh said a minibus had a head-on collision with a Toyota Hiace bus conveying the corps members to Sarduna Local Government Area of the state where they had been posted.

She said that according to eyewitnesses the minibus had attempted to overtake two trucks at a time but failed leading to the collision.

Yaakugh said the incident occurred after the mandatory three weeks orientation course at a location less than a kilometre away from the orientation camp.

The injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo, the state capital, according to her.

She said all but five have been discharged from the hospital.
