A former member of staff of a Lagos-based nursery school, Rukayat Amisu, has been remanded in prison for allegedly killing a three-year-old girl out of negligence.

Justice Adedayo Akintoye of an Igbosere High Court in Lagos gave the order on Monday.

Amisu, whose residential address was not given, is accused of committing the alleged offence on October 21, 2015, around 10 a.m. at Olab Private School, located at No. 11, Idowu Street, Lagos Island.

Lagos State prosecution counsel, Babatunde Sunmonu, told the court that the defendant negligently allowed the girl to sit on a container containing hot water.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 227 of the Criminal Law Lagos State, 2011.

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charge of manslaughter.

Defence counsel, A. O. Ladipo, told the court that he has filed a bail application.

The case was adjourned until March 11 for hearing in the bail application.
