NSCDC officer allegedly kills undergraduate in Delta

An operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has allegedly killed a 100-level student of the Niger Delta University (NDU) in Amassama, Bayelsa State.

The incident was said to have occurred around 10:30 pm on Saturday.

The NSCDC operative attached to a politician was alleged to have cocked his gun to announce the arrival of the politician, The Nation said.

He attempted to fire shots in the air but discovered the bullets would not release.

Sources said as the officer tried to free the magazine the gun fired and hit a student named Obinna at Efeke Ama area of the community.

Obinna was said to be a student at the Petrochemical department, Faculty of Engineering.

The undergraduate was pronounced dead at the Tantua Hospital, while the NSCDC officer was handed over to the police in Amassama.
