It’s not easy to get out of domestic violence – Victoria Inyama

Nollywood veteran, Victoria Inyama, who has publicly accused her husband, Godwin Okri, of domestic violence, once told an interviewer that it is not easy to get out of such toxic relationship.

The Glamour Girls actress stunned many fans on Wednesday when she wrote on Facebook that her marriage had become a bondage and that Godwin was manipulating the law to keep her yoked to him.

Despite having a live-in-lover, she said the father of her three kids won’t let her go.

“The bondage is sickening and all his legal antics. They say the law is fair but not when he manipulates it like he does.

“He has a live-in-lover and still won’t divorce me! He assaulted me yesterday and for the first time, I called in the police for him,” she wrote.

Although the alleged domestic violence just became public knowledge, many close to the actress knew all along that all was not well with her marriage.

Stories of domestic violence have swirled around her since the middle of last.

When asked about the subject in an interview published by sunnewsonline.com in November 2017, the Arochukwu, Abia-born actress said: “Domestic violence is quite complicated. For a man or woman, it is not a good experience.”

On any advice for a colleague going through the horror, she added: “There’s no point advising anyone going through domestic violence. It is not as easy to get out of as most people think. A victim would need a lot of support. Our society, based on culture and gender inequality, hardly frowns at it and has not set down strict rules to protect victims; it is so painful.”

Victoria and Godwin met in London in 2003 during the AfroHollywood Awards organised by Mike Abiola.

The actress relocated to the United Kingdom after their traditional wedding in Nigeria and had her white wedding at the New Wine Church, in Woolwich, London.
