Nnamdi Kanu’s family to raise N1m for food in DSS custody

IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu

The family of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has said they would send N1 million for the upkeep of the IPOB leader.

Special counsel to Kanu Aloy Ejimakor on Thursday claimed that Kanu, who is in the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS), had not been given food nor drugs because the DSS was broke.

Ejimakor said, “I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in company of Prince Emma Kanu and Barr. Nnaemeka Ejiofor. He instructed me to make it public that he has not been given his drugs for the past nine days and he has not eaten today because DSS says that they don’t have money to buy his food.”

The N1 million cheque will be released on Friday for Kanu’s upkeep, according to his brother Emmanuel Kanu.

“Yesterday (Thursday), when we visited him, he has not had any food. I asked them (DSS) why, they said that there is no money for his regular meal and that they don’t have any money,” he said.

“So, we have also explained everything to the SAN, Mike Ozekhome. By today, SAN will prepare a cheque of N1m to be handed over to the DSS for his feeding.

“I will also make sure I raise money and take the DSS along with me to make sure he has enough food to eat since the federal government can’t take care of him.”
