The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) says it will collaborate with the Osun government in developing the state’s tourism potentials.

Prof. Shola Adeyanju, a member of the NIPSS team to Osun, said this while addressing a news conference on Wednesday in Osogbo.

He said that the state was blessed with tourism potentials that must be developed.

Adeyanju said that the tourist centres in the state presented huge potentials that the government must exploit to the socio-economic benefits of its citizens.

He said NIPSS would develop a strategic plan for the state government towards exploring the tourism potentials in the state to boost its economy.

“Our coming is a preliminary visit to put in place adequate policy that will help the Osun government in turning the tourism potentials in the state to wealth for the benefit of the people.

“Osun is UNESCO heritage site, which means it has what can attract tourists to the state, and we want to assist the government in maximizing the potentials to the fullest.

“Tourism has being a source of revenue for many states and that is why we are here to maximize the tourism potentials in the state to improve its economy,” he said.

Adeyanju said the team had visited all the tourist sites in the state, adding that NIPSS as a policy formulation Institute would assist the government in putting the site to maximum use in the interest of the state.

Also speaking, Mr. Asipita Umar, NIPSS Managing Consultant, acknowledged the political will of the Osun government to collaborate with stakeholders in developing tourist sites in the state.

“Within the context of the mandate of the National Institute, we have resolved to engage the state government on a project to do a detailed study of the tourism potentials of Osun,

“This is with a view to crafting a medium-to-long term state strategy for transforming that sector,” he said.
