Nigerians saw me as hope of the country when I joined Justice Party – Okotie

Pastor Chris Okotie

Founder of Household of God Church in Lagos Rev Chris Okotie has said that Nigerians saw him as the hope of the country when he joined the Justice Party.

Okotie contested for the seat of the president three times under Justice Party before creating his own party, Fresh Democratic Party, where he also contested for the position but failed.

The preacher, who is also a singer, told BBC Pidgin that only the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have the kind of structures to win major elections in Nigeria.

Okotie said he was pleased with the interest of young people in politics. However, he said it might not be enough to withstand the political structures built by the major political parties.

“No other political party has this kind of structure, maybe in a few years if we carry on like this but the period is too short because PDP and APC have been on ground. PDP was in government for 16 years, there is no place you will go that you won’t see PDP or APC, that is why I say Nigerians don’t vote but parties.

“When I joined Justice Party, Nigerians were talking about me like the hope of the country but Justice Party did not have the structure, Fresh Democratic Party did not have it. No party in this country can rival APC and PDP,” he said.
