Nigerians knock Buhari for praising Ganduje

Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has come under attack for publicly praising the embattled Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano State who has been seen on video allegedly collecting bribe from a contractor.

Buhari, while addressing the Nigerian community in Paris, France on Monday, said Ganduje has been responsible enough to complete the projects abandoned by his predecessor, Musa Kwankwaso.

“I compliment the governor (Ganduje) for doing so much because he invited me, I went to Kano. The good projects started by Kwankwaso in education and healthcare, Ganduje completed them.

“If it were another person, he could have left them. This is the project he (Kwankwaso) started. He diverted the balance of the money to contest for president instead of completing it,” the president said.

Buhari’s public commendation comes on the heels of allegations made against the governor who has been in the news over the past few weeks after the publisher of Daily Nigerian, Ja’afar Ja’afar, alleged that he regularly received bribes from contractors handling projects in the state.

The president’s view of Ganduje did not go down well with some Nigerians on social media as they are of the opinion that the former’s anti-corruption stance is a suspect.
