Nigerian football club ‘turns down’ Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo

A Nigerian football club has made a joke of turning down Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the most-wanted player in the world now despite his latest scuffle with Spanish authorities.

Accused of tax fraud, Ronaldo is already considering leaving Spanish giants, Real Madrid, this summer.

As a result, the 32-year-old has now been linked with a host of teams, including former club, Manchester United.

However, it appears not all sides in the world craves for the four-time Ballon d’Or winner after all.

Not even Nigerian side, Go Round FC, who plays in the country’s second tier.

Reason being they prefer leading goalscorer, Etenfa Ekunta, to the superstar forward.

Go Round, one of the fastest growing clubs in Nigeria, have never played in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

In fact, they’ve never competed in any major championship but are set to represent Rivers in this season’s Federation Cup after beating Rivers United 4-2 in the state final.

However, that didn’t deter the Nigerian football club from eyeing the four-time Champions League winner, whose current deal with Real Madrid runs until the summer of 2021.

Had Go Round gone ahead with their purported interest, they would have been forced to cough out 1bn euro (£874.88m) which is the player’s buyout clause.

That is over N34 trillion going by the current exchange rate, which is way above the country’s 2017 budget.
