Nigerian brother involved in Jussie Smollett scandal wins amateur boxing title

Abel Osundairo involved in Jussie Smollet scandal

One of two Nigerian brothers named in the Jussie Smollett scandal, Abel Osundairo, has won an amateur boxing title in Chicago, US.

The 25-year-old became a Chicago Golden Gloves champion with a technical knockout last Friday at a stadium in the Chicago suburb of Cicero.

Osundairo won the senior novice division at the 178-pound limit over John Broderick. The tournament is broken down into subdivisions by fighter weights, ages and experience levels.

He ended up fighting in the division for boxers between the ages of 21 and 35 with less fight experience.

His brother, Olabinjo Osundairo, was at the fight alongside their lawyer, Gloria Schmidt.

After the staged attack in January, the Osundairo brothers fled to Nigeria while Smollett performed to sold-out shows and arranged interviews with US media.

The brothers were arrested by police on their return to Chicago on February 20.

They were interrogated for 47 hours before finally revealing that Smollett was behind the attack.

Chicago is suing Smollett after the Empire star refused to pay $130,106 worth of overtime that was accrued by police.
