NFF denies appointing Daniel Amokachi technical director

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it did not appoint former international, Daniel Amokachi, as its technical director.

Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Yusuf Ahmed (Fresh), said on Wednesday that the NFF never called for applications from candidates for the position, stating that Bitrus Bewarang remains technical director.

“This clarification becomes necessary against the background of wide-circulating but totally misleading reports of the appointment of Mr Daniel Amokachi, a former Super Eagles captain and coach, as head of NFF technical department,” the statement read.

“The NFF has been bemused by this unfounded story, which no doubt must have embarrassed Mr Amokachi himself.”

Mr Ahmed, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Amokachi as an ambassador of Nigerian football.

NFF spokesman, Ademola Olajire, said in a statement that “while the NFF does not and will not foreclose the possibility of a major role for Amokachi in the federation in the future, the truth is that presently, such an appointment has not been made.”
