NCC boss Maida to lead speakers at 17th Africa’s BoICT lecture in Lagos

Executive vice chairman and chief executive officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Aminu Maida has been announced as a special guest of honour at the 17th Africa Beacon of ICT (BoICT) Lecture and Awards.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos.

Organisers said the lecture will focus on digital transformation and efforts to position Nigeria in the global information and communications technology sector.

It will also include awards for organisations and individuals in the ICT and banking sectors.

According to the editor-in-chief of Nigeria Communications Week Ken Nwogbo, the NCC boss will join other industry stakeholders at the event.

Dr. Aminu Maida oversees regulation and development of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

He has led initiatives on consumer protection, infrastructure development and collaboration with agencies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria on fraud prevention.

He holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.

Before his appointment at NCC, he worked at the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) as executive director, technology and operations, where he worked on standardisation of payment systems and interoperability across financial devices.

He also worked as chief technical officer at Arca Payments Network, senior manager at Cisco Systems in the United Kingdom, a network design consultant at EE under BT Group and a system engineer at Ubiquisys, now part of Cisco.

Other speakers and past participants of the BoICT Lecture include former NCC executive vice chairman Ernest Ndukwe, former National Broadcasting Commission director-general Yomi Bolarinwa and former NITDA director-general Isa Pantami, among others.

Organisers said the event will also feature awards recognising contributions to technology development in Nigeria and Africa.
