NANS president threatens to shut down private varsities over ASUU strike

Sunday Asefon NANS president

The new president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Sunday Asefon says the union will force the closure of all private universities in the country if the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) does not call off its strike.

ASUU has been on strike for nine months over unpaid allowances and other funds.

The NANS president speaking on a PUNCH Online interview programme The Roundtable said the ongoing strike is the longest industrial action embarked on by the university lecturers.

Mr Asefon also said NANS would engage the Federal Government and ASUU leaders to find a lasting solution to resolve the stalemate in negotiations between the two arms.
