Naira scarcity made my daughter board BRT bus – Father of NYSC member killed in Lagos train accident

NYSC member Oreoluwa Aina killed in Lagos BRT/train accident

Femi Aina, father of Oreoluwa Aina, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member killed in a Lagos train accident last week, has disclosed that his daughter took the BRT bus involved in the disaster because of naira scarcity.

BBC Yoruba quoted Mr Aina as saying “if not for the money the authorities have withdrawn from circulation, my daughter would not have boarded that bus.

“But because she had no money on her, that’s why she boarded the bus.”

The bereaved father said he was in Abuja when the accident occurred on Thursday, March 9.

Upon learning that his daughter was on the bus, Aina said he called his younger siblings who informed him that she was in the intensive care unit at a hospital.

The man who described her daughter as a special gift from God said she did not play with her work.

He disclosed that she planned to get a master’s degree in the United Kingdom.

“She told me a lot about her plans. She was planning to study for her master’s in England,” Aina said.

He added that Oreoluwa was also saving to start a food-selling business.

“She tried her hands on many things. She was also a singer and did not joke with her faith in God,” he said.

Oreoluwa, who was serving with the Curriculum Services Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Education in Alausa, was buried on Saturday at Atan cemetery in Yaba.
