Musician Rotimi Martins, popularly known as Alariwo of Africa, has revealed the cause of his mum Mrs Josephine Martins’ death saying she slipped and fell on a staircase.

The veteran musician revealed this in a Punch interview on Tuesday.

“My mother was 74 years old when she died. What really happened was that she took a stroll and when she returned home, she slipped on the stairs and fell. By the time they took her to the hospital, it was too late as she had passed on. After some medical investigation, we learnt that her blood pressure and sugar level was quite high,” he said.

The singer also added that his mum was a great influence on his music.

“When it comes to my music, my mother encouraged me in so many ways especially during the early stage of my career. In all my songs, I always speak in my native language and it was my mother that inspired that.

“She used to send proverbs to me in our native language and I use those proverbs in my song. She advised me to infuse the proverbs in my songs,” he said.

Alariwo announced his mother’s death in an Instagram post on January 21.

He said, ““MY BELOVED MUM LEFT WITHOUT SAYING GOODBYE! I was home watching a movie when my younger brother called via wassap. When I opened my phone, I noticed that it was a connect call with all my siblings involved.

“Before picking, my instinct told me that something was wrong. Hello !!! Tears from the other side and boom, my brother broke the sad news All I could say was: It is well My heart instantly became heavy and I felt weak.”

Alariwo lost his dad Mr Albert Martins on October 30, 2019.

Breaking the news to Daily Independent during a telephone chat, he said, “My father, Mr Albert Etumudon Martins has died. He died peacefully at the ripe age of 87.”
