The Rapture Proclaimer Evangelical Church of God (RAPEC) in Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos has beefed up security in its premises following the attention the church is receiving.

Its founder Evangelist Funmilayo Adebayo popularly known as Mummy GO has appeared in multiple memes on social media over her controversial sermons.

The Nation reports that some church officials known as ‘holy police’ have been stationed at different points leading to the church.

It learnt that the ‘holy police’ have been tasked to ensure that videos, photos are not allowed and to also ensure compliance with the church’s rules on dressing.

According to the church, phones are distractions to the angels of God.

A reporter with PUNCH who visited the church on Sunday, January 9 learnt that Mummy GO had stopped attending church for some time due to alleged threats to her life.

The preacher herself had claimed gunmen were sent her way by those who felt threatened by her fame.

“The people who are doing these things (creating memes about me) started over eight years ago. Sometimes they make use of magazines. When that didn’t work, they sent gunmen after me,” she told BBC Pidgin in a recent interview.

“I’ve been receiving some strange calls saying ‘Evangelist Funmilayo you are affecting us. Many of our members hear your message and they pull out of our church. If you don’t stop, we will kill you.’”
