MTN Foundation takes healthcare to markets

MTN Market Doctor visits markets

Telecoms giant, MTN Nigeria, through its Foundation, has taken healthcare to the marketplace.

The first beneficiaries of the new initiative were buyers and sellers in New Layout Market, Borokiri and Rumuwoji Market (Mile 1 Ultra-Modern Market) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Buyers and sellers at the markets briefly suspended their activities and trooped to the designated points to consult the doctors for medical examination and other medical services.

The MTN Market Doctor programme is structured into various departments including nursing station, doctors’ station, and pharmacy, providing free blood pressure checkups and necessary drugs to all beneficiaries.

Among those present at the flag off ceremony of MTN Market Doctor in Port Harcourt were Founder, Market Doctor, Yetunde Ayo-Oyalowo; Senior Manager, MTN Foundation, Abasi-Ekong Udobang; Commissioner for Health, Rivers State, Prof. Princewill Chike.

Others are Rivers State Commissioner for Commerce & Industry, Nancy Chidi-Nwankwo; Director, MTN Foundation, Reginald Okeya; and Director, Market Doctor, Taiwo Oshinusi.

One of the beneficiaries, Ibiene Akalugbo, in appreciation said, “I am really happy for what is happening today at New Layout Market. MTN came to the market to give us free medical treatment and the traders in New Layout Market are very happy because some people don’t even have money to go to clinic talk less of the health centres but today, MTN has brought medical services to us here.”

MTN Market Doctor will also be visiting Oyigbo main market, Echi Eta market in Eleme, and Ndoni main market.
