Comedian and media personality, Mr Jollof, has attacked human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, over his request for the release of convener of RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, the Warri-based comic called out Falana for calling for the release of Sowore adding that he doubted the lawyer’s certification.

Mr Jollof also pleaded with the Presidency to release Mr Sowore.

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, granted the Department of State Service (DSS) permission to detain Sowore, for 45 days.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo gave the ruling adding that the detention order would be renewable after the expiration of first 45 days on September 21.

A lawyer representing the secret police service, G.O. Abadua, had on Tuesday appeared before the court to move the agency’s ex-parte application to detain Sowore for 90 days.

Mr Sowore, 48, was arrested last Saturday by DSS operatives ahead of Monday’s #RevolutionNow protest, which he had spearheaded.

Among those who have spoken in Sowore’s favour is Femi Falana.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said in a release: “The State Security Service should release Mr Omoyele Sowore, one of the conveners of the protests.

“In the alternative, he should be arraigned in court if there is reasonable suspicion that he has contravened any penal statute.”
