Actress Mercy Johnson has stirred mixed reactions after she was unveiled as brand ambassador for Girls Tag, a menstrual care brand reportedly selling for N25,000.
Mercy Johnson and her daughter, Purity Okojie, were recently introduced as ambassadors for the brand during its launch campaign.
The menstrual care product is described as an all in one period care package designed for girls aged nine and above.
The unveiling has since generated discussions on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the pricing of the kit in relation to current economic realities in the country.
Some commentators argued that the reported N25,000 price makes it difficult for many families to afford, especially at a time when the cost of basic needs continues to rise.
Others described the campaign as out of touch, pointing to wider concerns about access to affordable sanitary products for girls and women in Nigeria.
However, some users defended the product, saying the contents of the package and its presentation could justify the price.
The Girls Tag initiative is introduced by iBlend Services, which serves as the regional agency for the brand, working in partnership with marketing and communications firm Eddie MPR. The project was developed in collaboration with its partners as a menstrual and puberty support system aimed at young girls in Nigeria.
The brand positions itself not only as a hygiene product line but also as an educational support system for adolescents and parents navigating puberty. The company behind the initiative also says the kits are designed to combine menstrual essentials with learning materials, including a puberty guide titled Youberty, which is included in the package.
