Men scared to ask women out because of rape allegation – Reno Omokri

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has alleged that men are becoming ‘too scared’ to ask women out in the wake of sexual harassment allegations in the country.

In a tweet on Monday, Mr Omokri warned that the country might see an ‘epidemic of spinsters’ as merely approaching a woman at this time might be seen as ‘unwanted advances’.

“We must be careful how we bandy the words sexual assault about. It exists. However, men are becoming too scared to even ask women out,” he wrote.

“They fear that merely asking may be seen as unwanted advances. We may face an epidemic of spinsters as a result.”

The recent rape and murder of a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Uwa Omozuwa, drew widespread condemnation and calls for stiffer punishment on sex offenders.

Last week, musicians – Peruzzi and D’banj – were accused of rape. Peruzzi denied the allegation while D’banj kept mute.
