A family source, Padio Phin, told TheNation that the professor’s younger brother, a veterinary doctor, Sheda Zata, was killed in the process.

Phin said Sheda, 49, spent the night with his brother after coming from his rural posting to collect his salary in the state capital.

He said the gunmen shot when they heard him coming out of his room on hearing the commotion in the house.

Zata had earlier been kidnapped last October from his residence.
