Manchester United releases official Odion Ighalo interview

Manchester United have released the official interview of their newest addition, Odion Ighalo, who joined the club in dramatic fashion on deadline day from Shanghai Shenhua, China.

Speaking with MUTV in the interview published on Wednesday, Ighalo said he chose the number 25 shirt because it was what was available alongside 19.

“When I was at Watford I put on number 24 and it was not available. In Shanghai, I had number nine and that was not available. So I said to myself that 24 plus one is 25, so I said ‘okay let me go with the number 25 instead of 19,’” he said.

United’s first-ever African player, Quinton Fortune, also wore the number 25 shirt during his six seasons as a player and Ighalo admits the former South Africa international influenced his decision.

“Yeah, because I watched Quinton Fortune play for Man United, he was a great player and I know he put on the number 25, so I said to myself that number 25 is good,” he said.

The Nigeria international vowed to do his best for the team to ensure they finish well at the end of the season.

He has a deal with the club to serve as cover for injured Marcus Rashford with no option to buy.
