A man has appeared in a video being flogged for allegedly insulting a local government chairman in Akwa Ibom State.

According to Premium Times, the video clips have been shared multiple times on social media.

The clips show two men said to be aides to the chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Imoh Williams, whom they said Godwin Abraham, a local artisan, insulted.

The date and location of the incident has not been confirmed.

One of the men is heard in the video interrogating Mr Abraham who is seen lying on the floor as they speak in Annang, one of the indigenous languages in Akwa Ibom.

The second man is seen in the video using his foot to press Abraham’s head to the floor.

One of the men said to the artisan: “Say you won’t do it again!”

“I won’t do it again,” Abraham responded.

As the artisan attempts to raise his head, the second man shouted at him to keep his face down.

“Do you know that you insulted the chairman of Abak Local Government Area?” they told him.

It is believed that the artisan had expressed his frustration on social media over the chairman’s indebtedness to him for an unnamed job which was done.

The artisan, still lying face down, says the chairman was owing him N75, 000.

One of his interrogators then tells him to go back to Facebook, delete the post and apologise for his actions.

Soon, one of the men began whipping Abraham with a belt.

The online newspaper said it contacted the chairman of the local government, but said he refused to comment on the incident.
