An Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, has remanded a 33-year-old man, Ado Abdullahi, at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kirikiri, for allegedly clubbing a man to death with a baseball bat.

The court, presided over by a Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adedayo, gave the order on Friday, when Abdullahi was arraigned before it on a count charge of murder.

However, the court did not take the plea of the defendant.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 14, at about 8.00 pm. at Shasha Road, opposite Etti Street, Shasha.

He alleged that the defendant used a baseball bat to hit the deceased, Mr Rasaki Ogundimu, on his head, thus leading to his death.

Uwadione explained that Abdullahi allegedly hit the deceased with the bat to prevent him from escaping after committing theft.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes death sentence for convicts.
