Man docked over alleged theft of employer’s goods worth N2.1m

A 42-year-old man, Abiodun Oyetunde, was on Monday arraigned in an Iyaganku Senior Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing his employer’s goods  worth N2.1million.

Oyetunde of no fixed address is facing a three – count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kola Olaiya, told the court that the defendant, a former employee of Gastab Nigeria Limited, defraud his employer of 8,850 litres of petrol, valued at N1.3 million.

“ Oyetunde while on Gastab employment stole two trailer batteries valued at N70, 000, one trailer spare tyre valued at N40, 000, 10 pairs of factory uniforms value at N9, 000.

“The accused also stole 4,000 litres of petrol valued at N683, 430; total amount of stolen items was N2, 085, 680, property of Gastab Nigeria Limited,” Olaiya said.

He said that the offences were committed on July 28, at about 1p.m., at Kilometre 8, Ibadan/ Lagos Expressway, Ibadan.

According to the prosecutor, the offences were contrary to Section 383 and Punishable under Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo state 2000.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Sumbo Durowoju, granted the accused N200,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until January 23, 2018.
