A Lagos police prosecutor told Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday that a man, Chibuzor Elikee, allegedly kidnapped a toddler on the premises of Mountain of Fire and Prayer Ministries (MFM), Lagos.

The prosecutor, Chinalu Uwadione, said the accused demanded for N1.6 million cash, and N5,000 recharge cards as ransom.

Uwadione said others who were involved in the incident on March 24 were still at large and that the three-year-old child, Esther Ojo, had not been found.

The prosecutor also said the alleged offence contravened the provisions of sections 2(ii), 3 and 6 of the Kidnapping Prohibition Laws of Lagos State, 2017.

Mr Elikee, 34, whose house address was not stated, was slammed with four counts of kidnap, conspiracy and fraudulent obtain.

Chief Magistrate A.O. Adedayo remanded Elikee at the Kirikiri Prisons, pending the outcome of legal advice from the State’s Director of Public Prosecutions.

He also adjourned the matter until June 10.
