Mad Max: Fury Road dominates Critics’ Choice Awards

Action film, Mad Max: Fury Road, was the biggest winner at the Critics’ Choice Awards held on Sunday in Santa Monica, USA, with nine awards out of 13 nominations.

The George Miller film beat out notable movies like The Revenant, Spotlight and The Martian in several categories to win the awards for Best Director, Best Action Movie, Best Actor in an Action Movie, Best Actress in an Action Movie, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Hair and Make- up and Best Visual Effects.

With this victory, the movie starring Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy, Nicholas Hoult and Hugh Keays-Byrne is expected to score multiple wins out of the 10 nominations for the Oscars.

Another big winner was Spotlight which was named Best Picture, and also won the Best Original Screenplay and Best Ensemble Cast gongs.

This was the first year the Critics’ Choice combined the awards for film and television into one ceremony.

In the television category, Mr Robot claimed three awards including Best Drama Series and Best Actor in a Drama Series.
