Liverpool, Tottenham reach Champions League last 16

Against all odds, Premier League duo Liverpool and Tottenham qualified for the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

While the Reds recorded a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Napoli, Spurs snatched a point on the road against Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp’s men needed either a 1-0 win or to secure a victory by a two-goal margin to go through on a night of nerves and excitement at Anfield, with a brilliant individual goal from Mohamed Salah proving enough.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side knew a late equaliser would be enough to see them through, however, some last-minute heroics from goalkeeper Alisson kept his clean sheet intact and proved decisive to his side’s passage.

PSG overcame Red Star in Belgrade to top Group C, with Liverpool finishing second and Napoli placed into the Europa League last 32.

Meanwhile, Lucas Moura’s late goal off the bench gave Tottenham a 1-1 away draw at Barcelona.

The stalemate, coupled with Inter Milan drawing PSV Eindhoven, is enough to send Spurs into the knockout rounds.

Ousmane Dembele scored for Barcelona, who had already won the group.
