Liverpool, Everton go to war over Shehu Abdullahi

Merseyside rivals, Liverpool and Everton, are embroiled in a transfer tussle for Super Eagles star, Shehu Abdullahi.

Jürgen Klopp has had to do without regular first-choice right-back, Nathaniel Clyne.

So also has Everton, who are without Irishman, Seamus Coleman.

“Yes, we have offers from Spain, France, Italy and Merseyside clubs in England,” the 24-year-old’s representative, Mitem Sports Group, told 90MinutesGoal on Wednesday.

“We will study which offer is best for our client since he will be a free agent after the World Cup.”

Abdullahi has been a revelation since debuting for Nigeria in 2014.

The skilful defender has made the right-back role his own despite experiencing three managerial changes.

He was pivotal for Nigeria en route to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, featuring in all the qualifiers.

Yet the ex-Plateau United man had to endure a somewhat awkward career path at club level.

After leaving Kano Pillars in 2014, Shehu surprisingly moved to Kuwaiti Premier League side, Qadsia SC.

There he made just seven appearances and soon after, was on the move again.

This time, he moved to newly promoted Portuguese club, União da Madeira, in the summer of 2015.

After just one season there, the Nigerian went on transit yet again, joining Cypriot side, Anorthosis Famagusta.

But he appears to have settled perfectly in the island nation.

Shehu, who occasionally captains the side, has helped them to the summit of the log this term after 12 matches.

A move away from Anorthosis looks likely in January, but the club could be forced to keep hold of him until the summer and lose him for free.
