Leukaemia: I’m not dead or dying – Sadiq Daba

Sadiq Daba

Veteran Nigerian actor, Sadiq Daba, has dismis fears that he is dying of leukaemia with which he has been diagnosed.

Anxiety over the health of the Cock Crow at Dawn star heightened on Thursday after filmmaker, Sonny McDon, raised an alarm in a Facebook post.

It comes a few days after Kasimu Yero, who played the role of Uncle Gaga in Cock Crow at Dawn, died in Kaduna on Sunday after a protracted illness.

“Dear colleagues and friends in Nollywood especially some of us that date back to NTA days please put a call to Uncle Sadiq Daba. He needs your voice of strength please,” McDon wrote.

With friends and fans bombarding his Facebook page and phone with enquiries, Daba responded that he was not dying.

“I am not dead nor dying!!! God has been and will Always be faithful to me and my plight, because that is my covenant with Him,” he wrote in response to a Facebook user.

“My doctors have been wonderful and I am responding to treatment. …..my love and thanks to all those who have called to sympathize and empathize with me…..God bless you.”

Veteran journalist, Azuka Jebose, said he spoke with the actor and that he was recuperating at home.

“I just spoke with him. He is recuperating at home, hopeful, smiling, though weak voice,” the former Punch entertainment writer wrote.

Daba came to national prominence in the 70s for his iconic role as Bitrus in Cock Crow at Dawn, a Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) production to promote interest in farming.

The Ahmadu Bello University graduate was named best actor at the 2015 Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for his role as Inspector Waziri in Kunle Afolayan’s October 1.

Another prominent Nigerian currently treating leukaemia, a cancer of the blood and blood marrow, is Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme.
