Ogbomoso Cultural Beauty

A 400 level Crop and Environmental Protection student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomoso, who represented the Masifa Community of Ogbomoso, has emerged the 3rd Arewa Ogbomoso Ajilete at the 2018 Ogbomoso Cultural Beauty Pageant.

The grand finale of the pageant was held at the Crystal Spring Auditorium in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Out of 20 ladies who made it to the auditions, Six made it to the finals and participated in a keenly contested contest, the panel of judges adjudged Miss Oluwatoyin, winner of the 3rd Arewa Ogbomoso Cultural Beauty Pageant.

A 300 level Physics student of LAUTECH, Miss Oluwatunmise, emerged as the first runner up; while Arewa Adedolapo, a final year student of English Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, who represented Asani Community of Ogbomoso, emerged as the second runner up.

Among the judges were Miss Ideal ECOWAS 2017, Queen Amusat Christabel, and convener of Face of Western Nigeria, Queen Olanike Alabi.

A campaign called Support the Girl Child Education Campaign, an initiative aimed at getting more girls back to school, was launched at the pageant.

A retired deputy controller general of Nigerian Customs Service, Ezekiel Okeniyi, was awarded the 2018 Ogbomoso Man of the year.

Banji Ojo and Janet Dare-Williams were awarded distinguished Role Models of the year (male & female category respectively) among other awards.

Coordinator of Ogbomoso Lifters, Seun Ogunbiyi, said the event was aimed at showcasing the rich cultural ethos of Ogbomoso, the worth of true intrinsic beauty, elegance and intelligence; and showing the world how Africa celebrates beautiful women with brains and brawns.
