Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, on Thursday, announced that the institution has been ranked 10th best university in Nigeria.

A statement issued by the principal assistant registrar, public and alumni relations, Lekan Fadeyi in Ogbomoso, said that the institution also consolidated its position as the best state university in the country.

Mr. Fadeyi said that the proclamation was made by the Times Higher Education (THE) which examined 1,799 universities across 104 countries.

“For the 10th time, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has been named one of the 10th leading universities in Nigeria.

“Its position on the list also confirmed the university’s ranking as the best state university,” he said.

Fadeyi said that the ranking table was based on 13 performance indicators, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

“Times Higher Education (THE) is a British Magazine reporting specifically on news and issues related to higher education.

“Since its first issue came out in October 1971, this is the first time LAUTECH is appearing in Times Higher Education Magazine.

“In another similar development, Just Events, an online publication, releases what it called list of Nigeria’s best universities, 2023, which includes a total of 12 institutions in which LAUTECH still ranked as only listed state-owned university,” he said.

The LAUTECH spokesman quoted the acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mojeed Liasu, as describing the feat as translating into commendable progress for the institution.

He added that the university had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Kentucky, Lexington, USA, in the area of transnational programmes.

He said that the collaboration was geared towards having qualified PhD candidates from seven academic engineering programmes of LAUTECH do their research and academic programmes in Kentucky.

“The collaboration is aimed at enhancing the development of students and staffers as well as improve LAUTECH’s international ranking.

“The engineering courses included in the arrangement include Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Agricultural Engineering,” he said.

Also speaking, LAUTECH‘s Director in charge of International Office, Prof. Timothy Olabiyi, said that the new relationship was aimed at establishing and recognising a formal connection between the two institutions.
