Lagos State Ministry of Justice has rescued an 11-year old girl allegedly being abused and assaulted by her father in Ketu area of the state.

The ministry’s directorate of citizens’ rights was invited into the matter after a neighbour residing on the same street with the family reported the case.

Director, Citizens Rights Oluwatoyin Odusanya said officials of the ministry of justice gathered that the assault by the father had occurred on several occasions before it was formally reported to the authorities.

“The good neighbour stated that the 61-year old man, who lost his wife – the mother of the victim and had remarried – was always in the habit of assaulting the victim and her sibling,” Odusanya explained.

She noted that officials of the Child Protection Unit, Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, arrested the alleged abusive father and took him to a police station for further investigations.

Director, Child Protection Unit Olubukayo Odukoya said the rescued child would be taken to a government facility for necessary care and rehabilitation.
