Lagos police PRO Benjamin Hundeyin commends Peter Okoye for deleting pleas for Seun Kuti

Spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command Benjamin Hundeyin has praised musician Peter Okoye for deleting his tweets about Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti.

Seun was arrested and detained on Monday after a video of him slapping a police officer in uniform on Saturday on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos went viral.

The police plan to arraign him for assault on a police officer.

When the video went viral, Peter tweeted that the police should pardon Seun.

He tweeted, “Dear @PoliceNG, What Seun did was wrong! Please temper justice with mercy!”

Peter knocked those who urged him to rejoice over Seun’s ordeal in police custody. Seun clashed with Peter and his brother Paul Okoye, who are together known as P-Square, over their support for the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi.

But Hundeyin said justice was for the court to decide.

Peter then told Hundeyin that the world still remembers how he (Hundeyin) was silent when the Igbo were threatened during the general elections.

He wrote; ‘‘Wow! You were so quick to respond. Just in case you didn’t know, we haven’t forgotten how mute you were during the elections concerning the whole threat on Igbos in Lagos.

‘‘We are watching and the world is watching. We go all dey alright las las!”

Peter has since deleted all the tweets.

Acknowledging the singer’s action, Hundeyin said on Tuesday, “I commend @PeterPsquare for deleting all his tweets giving tacit support for assault on police officers. Way to go. No one should condone criminality.”
