Reports say the officials had counted votes in eight out of 10 ballot boxes before the gunmen stormed the venue.

Aspirants, delegates and others scampered for safety following the shooting.

It is not known if there was any casualty.

Chairman of the electoral committee, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, escaped harm.

The governor, however, did not return to continue overseeing the process.
