Kogi Deputy Governor, Simon Achuba

Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba, has pressed charges before the State High Court, Lokoja against plans of his impeachment by the House of Assembly.

Mr Achuba is challenging the impeachment notice served on him by the assembly on grounds that it was served out of time and marred with irregularities.

The case is set for hearing on the date to be announced soon by the court, Qed.ng has learnt.

Majority leader Abdullahi Bello (Ajaokuta, APC) read the impeachment notice before the house on August 7, saying it was signed by 21 out of the 25 lawmakers.

The legislators hinged the petition on three grounds of criminal indulgence, financial misappropriation and non-performance.

They also claimed that the allegations, actions and utterances of the deputy governor amounted to gross misconduct.

Achuba had accused the governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, of being after his life.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi had suspended Achuba for alleged anti-party activities before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
