Kidnapping: Ambode donates N5million to widow of police informant

Kehinde Bamigbetan donates cheque to widow on Akinwunmi Ambode behalf

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has donated N5million to the widow and children of Osaze Omoregbe, a community leader killed and burnt by kidnappers for leading security agents to foil their operation.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Communications, Kehinde Bamigbetan, presented a cheque to the widow at a solemn ceremony at the family’s residence in Isawo, Ikorodu.

Mr Bamigbetan, who was received by Chairman of the Community Development Association, Ahmed Yusuf, read a condolence message personally signed by Governor Ambode.

The message reads: “It is with deep grief that I share your sorrow on the unfortunate death of your father, husband and breadwinner, Mr. Osaze Omoregbe.

“At a time our administration is consolidating partnership with our communities and their courageous and committed leaders, your benefactor stood up to be counted. He supported the forces of light seeking to crush the notorious kidnappers who had turned your neighbourhood into a jungle of death. In that patriotic response to our call to join hands and collectively secure our communities, he paid the supreme price.”

Mrs. Omodunni Omoregbe, who was short of words, broke into tears while receiving the cheque.

Bamigbetan, who led a delegation including the Senior Special Assistant on Community Affairs, Tajudeen Quadri; Chairperson of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Jumoke Ademehin-Jumbo; Chairperson of the Community Development Committee, K.A. Damole, and others, prayed at the graveside of the deceased.

Mrs. Ademehin-Jumbo, on behalf of the LCDA, thanked the Lagos State Government for coming to the rescue of the family.

The late Omoregbe, who led the security committee of Olorunsogo Community Development Association, had alerted the police on hearing heavy bullet shots by kidnappers seeking to capture a victim.

On arrival, policemen and soldiers asked him to lead them to the spot where they were ambushed and killed by the kidnappers.

Omoregbe is survived by his wife, and two children, Adesuwa and Osaze.
