Kenyan’s Abraham Kiptum wins Lagos Marathon for second year

Kenya’s Abraham Kiptum on Saturday emerged winner of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon for the second successive year, carting away the grand prize of $50,000.

Over 50,000 runners participated in the race.

The 42.1km also featured around 64 elite athletes from 26 countries, 30 special athletes and 102 from Nigeria.

It started at the National Stadium in Surulere and terminated at Eko Atlantic City on Victoria Island, Lagos.

Kiptum finished the race at the time of 2:15:23s.

His compatriots, Ronny Kiboss and Kiprotich Kiroi, came second and third finishing in 2:15:25s and 2:15:30s, winning $40,000 and $30,000 dollars respectively.

Istifanus Peter Mahan was the first Nigerian to breast the finish tape in 2:37:51s, while Kefas Williams and Ritji Timothy finished second and third in 2:40:43s and 2:41:31s respectively.

The next edition of the marathon is scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 10, 2018.
