Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, on Saturday left Nigeria hours after she was forced to resign over forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.

The 51-year-old, who was born and raised in England, has returned to her country of birth, according to her associates.

PREMIUM TIMES had in July reported that Mrs Adeosun had obtained a forged NYSC certificate with which she rose to become a minister under President Muhammadu Buhari.

After 69 days of silence, the chartered accountant resigned her appointment on Friday, claiming she did not know the certificate was forged as she relied on associates who helped obtain it after she returned from the UK.

“She has left Nigeria. “She most likely is in the UK by now,” a source told PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday.

When the online newspaper called her Nigerian line, it rang through each time in the Europe internal phone ringing effect.

PUNCH also reports that the ex-minister was sighted at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Saturday morning where she boarded a British Airways flight.

The flight was said to have taken off by 8:05 am.

Staff of the finance ministry were said to have wept profusely on Friday night as Adeosun bade them farewell and stepped out of her former office for the last time

“Adeosun encouraged and joined the staff in prayers and praise worship to God for the over three years she handled the affairs of the ministry.

“The former minister, who arrived the office at 10 am on Friday, spent the day completing outstanding tasks till 11 pm when she finally stepped out of office to a guard of honour mounted by the staff,” one of her aides said in a message sent to Qed.ng.
