Gunmen have reportedly murdered Dr. Chike Akunyili, widow of the former director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Prof. Dora Akunyili.
Akunyili was reportedly attacked at Umuoji in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State on Tuesday evening.
His driver and police escort were also killed, Akunyili’s son told BBC.
Videos of how Akunyili was struggling for his life after the gunmen attacked has been shared multiple times on social media.
Akunyili, who is the chief executive officer of St Leo Hospital, Enugu, was returning to Enugu from Onitsha where he attended a lecture in honour of his late wife which was organised by the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), his son added.
